Esta dissertação propõe uma investigação sobre o graffiti e os "novos murais" presentes na região do Minhocão, viaduto que corta bairros da Zona Oeste e do Centro histórico de São Paulo, com o objetivo de mapear e apresentar suas principais disputas, modos de percepção e apropriações. Parte-se do histórico de construção da via elevada; analisa-se brevemente algumas das disputas vinculadas aos usos e funções deste espaço, no momento atual; avança-se para a discussão sobre as modalidades da arte urbana e do graffiti na cidade de São Paulo, buscando-se definir o termo "novo muralismo"; apresenta-se o recorte dos festivais de "novo muralismo" no centro da cidade de São Paulo, com enfoque no período de 2015 a 2022, investigando suas origens, os modos de produção do espaço urbano, e os principais interesses públicos e privados envolvidos em sua realização. Por fim, analisa-se o Minhocão como fronteira urbana, elemento de separação de bairros, e também como uma estrutura que se constitui em duas ambiências significativamente distintas, a parte de cima do elevado e a parte de baixo, apresentando-se reflexões sobre as formas de ocupação destes espaços, com vistas a demonstrar o papel das imagens do graffiti e dos "novos murais" na configuração atual deste território e nos esforços públicos e privados de reconfiguração dessa região. Conclui-se que as imagens têm um importante papel na constituição das disputas sobre aquele território e defende-se a hipótese de que as inscrições presentes na parte de baixo do viaduto têm, em geral, um caráter mais enigmático e dissensual do que os "novos murais" na parte superior, cuja natureza tende a ser mais consensual.

This dissertation proposes an investigation into graffiti and the "new murals" in the Minhocão region, viaduct that cuts through neighborhoods in the West Zone and the historic center of São Paulo, with the aim of mapping and presenting their main disputes, modes of perception and appropriations. It starts with the construction history of the elevated road; it briefly analyzes some of the disputes related to the uses and functions of this space, at the present time. The discussion then moves on to the modalities of urban art and graffiti in the city of São Paulo, seeking to define the term "new muralism"; it presents a selection of "new muralism" festivals in the center of the city of São Paulo, focusing on the period from 2015 to 2022, investigating their origins, the modes of production of urban space, and the main marketing interests involved in their realization. Finally, the Minhocão is analyzed as an urban frontier, an element separating neighborhoods, and also as a structure that consists of two significantly different ambiences, the upper part of the elevated and the lower part. Reflections are presented on the ways of occupying these spaces, seeking to demonstrate the role of graffiti images and "new murals" in the current configuration of this territory and in public and private efforts to reconfigure this region. It is concluded that the images play an important role in the constitution of disputes over that territory and it is defended the hypothesis that the inscriptions present on the underside of the viaduct have, in general, a more enigmatic and dissenting character than the "new murals" at the top, whose nature tends to be more consensual.
