Abstract in English
In 2011, a real estate branch of the company Cosan announced a real estate development in the Santa Rosa neighborhood, in the city of Piracicaba, in the countryside of the State of São Paulo. The real estate development, called Reserva Jequitibá, intends to be the first self-sustainable neighborhood in the municipality. This research intends to build, through a case study, a counter-hegemonic narrative about the enterprise and its neighborhood from an interdisciplinary approach with historical research, critical analysis and the practice of literary writings. For this approach, field visits, investigative, documentary and bibliographical research and semi-structured interviews with people directly and indirectly involved with the real estate development were carried out. Reserva Jequitibá seems to be an allegory of cities in Brazil, of the relations between social classes and the State and of their capacities to influence the production of urban space. To make the enterprise viable, Cosan relied on the submission of public power to international capital. For its valorization, it used and depended on the State. In the research, we also noticed several irregularities practiced by groups of the Piracicaban ruling class to enrich themselves even more. In the end, we make dialogues between the interpretations of the world and the knowledge of the people interviewed, the interdisciplinary scientific knowledge, the life stories, the data collected by the investigative and documentary research, between the rational understanding of reality and its sensitive apprehension through literary writing, to compose our counter-hegemonic narrative about the real estate development.
