A sobrevida do texto literário na tradução: repondo Leaves of Grass em circulação

Abstract in English
This research work comparatively relates the translations into Brazilian Portuguese of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, as well as presents a translation proposal for some poems of the volume, specifically from the Song of Myself collection. For this critical comparison, we selected some translations made by four Brazilian translators: Péricles Eugênio da Silva Ramos, Geir Campos, Rodrigo Garcia Lopes and Bruno Gambarotto. Then we presented a translation with commentary of the same poems that were compared. For this purpose, we searched for more than 50 translations in Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and French. The present work brings the theories of Antoine Berman (ennoblement and elongation) and Paulo Henriques Britto (critical comparison). The proposal was to reflect on translations based on these theories, especially in the moments when they converge in the process of translation as an agent of survival of the work. Through the translator's task, the text lives longer and better, beyond the author's possibilities. And it is in poetry that translation as creation and criticism has its fundamental role in the rewriting of literary texts.
