Abstract in English
The thesis analyzes and compares four audiovisual productions from different cultural, political and media contexts, but which have in common a significant dialogue with fundamental literary works in their respective national contexts: The Idiot, by Dostoievsky, and Dom Casmurro, by Machado de Assis. The audiovisual productions analyzed are: the films The Idiot (1958), by Ivan Pyryev; Capitu (1968), by Paulo César Saraceni; and the miniseries The Idiot (2003), by Vladimir Bortko; and Capitu (2008), by Luiz Fernando Carvalho. For that, the thesis explores the cultural image associated with each writer and their work and the development and functioning of the audiovisual industry in Brazil and Russia, through a selected historical period based on literary and cinematographic critics, the film repertoire of each country, and the work produced by those four directors. The thesis also presents specific analyzes of the four objects, as well as common questions related to them, allowing the comparison of themes related to: the respective literary traditions, the national and international cinematographic circuits characteristics, representation of female figures, functions of the narrative instances, as well as manifestations of resentment and nostalgia
