Abstract in English
This dissertation proposes an analytical-interpretative reading of the novel Angústia, by Graciliano Ramos. At first, the basic procedure of the narrative - structured on the nexus between action and inaction - is highlighted, in view of how it determines the development of the plot and materializes in the configuration of temporality, in the description of the environment, as well as in the composition of the characters. Special attention is then given to the frustrated love affair between Luís da Silva and Marina. The intention is to make explicit the general theme of failure, understood as an aspect that defines the individual trajectory of the poor civil servant, but also of other characters. Finally, we try to analyze the issue of ugliness, whose theme within the novel seems to have to do with the need to overcome it, in favor of the creation of another sensitivity, capable of the body to another life -- which also implies the claim of beauty.
