Esta tese desenvolve a análise dos romances Soldados de Salamina (2001), de Javier Cercas e El corazón helado (2006), de Almudena Grandes, com o intuito de verificar como o romance espanhol do início do século XXI problematiza as formas como a sociedade espanhola contemporânea lida com as memórias dos vencidos pela Guerra Civil de 1936, que também sofreram com as práticas de manipulação e apagamento destas mesmas memórias por parte da ditadura franquista. Neste contexto, o romance sofre as injunções do mercado cultural e transita entre uma poética trágica e um modo poético romanesco. Trabalha-se com as noções de memória coletiva, memória histórica e memória social, assim como com o conceito de reconhecimento, pois parte-se do pressuposto de que a Transição à democracia não estabeleceu formas adequadas de recuperação destas memórias obliteradas e/ou manipuladas pelos agentes sociais e pelo próprio Estado. Com respeito à reconfiguração destes processos pela ficção, trabalha-se com as noções críticas propostas por Northrop Frye (1957), assim como os conceitos propostos por Winter e Sivan (1999) sobre os agentes da memória e as reflexões de Walter Benjamin e Jeanne-Marie Gagnebin a respeito do narrador e da problemática da narrativa em tempos de catástrofe e barbárie. Conclui-se que os romances, embora apresentem-se como estratégias de engajamento no debate social sobre a necessidade de recuperação das memórias dos vencidos, nem sempre configuram ficcionalmente as demandas propostas de forma satisfatória, quando aproximam-se da poética romanesca e simplificam a problemática relacionada aos processos de manipulação e/ou apagamento das memórias dos vencidos pela sociedade espanhola, ao representar ficcionalmente os trânsitos das memórias entre as esferas pública e privada.

This thesis develops the analysis of the novels Soldados de Salamina (2001), by Javier Cercas and El corazón helado (2006), by Almudena Grandes, with the purpose of verifying how the Spanish novel of the beginning of the 21st century problematizes the forms as the Spanish contemporary society deals with the memories of defeated of the Civil War of 1936, who also suffered with the practices of manipulation and erasure of these same memories on the part of the pro-Franco dictatorship. In this context, the novel suffers the injunctions of the cultural market and transits between a tragic poetic and a romanesque poetic way. We work with the notions of collective memory, historical memory and social memory, as well as with the concept of recognition, since it is based on the assumption that the Transition to democracy did not establish adequate forms of recovery of these memories obliterated and / or manipulated by the social agents and by the State itself. With respect to the reconfiguration of these processes by fiction, we work with the critical notions proposed by Northrop Frye (1957), as well as the concepts proposed by Winter and Sivan (1999) on the agents of memory and the reflections of Walter Benjamin and Jeanne-Marie Gagnebin about the narrator and the problematic of the narrative in times of catastrophe and barbarism. It is concluded that novels, although presented as strategies of engagement in the social debate on the need to recover the memories of the vanquished, do not always fictionally configure the demands satisfactorily, when they approach the romanesque poetics and simplify the problematic related to the processes of manipulation and / or erasure of memories of losers by Spanish society.
