A presente tese de doutorado procura analisar a recepção da tradução alemã de Grande Sertão: Veredas segundo a perspectiva do conceito de Weltliteratur de Goethe. A base teórica que fundamenta este estudo é a Estética da Recepção, principalmente na formulação dos conceitos de Wolfgang Iser e de Hans Robert Jauß.O capítulo teórico apresenta os conceitos operacionais da Estética da Recepção, sobretudo a partir de suas raízes estruturalistas. Depois é discutida qual a relação possível entre um estudo de recepção literária e a análise de um texto traduzido. As respostas são buscadas nas posições de Goethe e dos poetas alemães da primeira fase do romantismo. Em seguida é apresentado o modelo de análise de tradução de Berman, cujo emprego viabiliza a aplicação da teoria, conforme oportunamente detalhado.O capítulo II dedica-se à tarefa de apresentar os resultados da pré-análise da tradução segundo o modelo de análise de Berman. Depois se apresenta uma reconstituição do horizonte de expectativas do público leitor na Alemanha em relação à literatura latino-americana.O capítulo III traz a análise dos textos em alemão e em português do romance de Rosa, bem como um cotejo com a sua tradução para o italiano. A conclusão aponta para a existência de um diálogo entre o sentido particular da obra e de um sentido mais amplo e universal que vale como um exame da tradição literária universal e da do sertão.O capítulo IV analisa os documentos que registram a recepção da tradução alemã de Grande Sertão: Veredas. Verifica-se que a conclusão da análise do capítulo anterior é razoável e se reflete na recepção da obra

This Ph.D. dissertation is an attempt to analyse the literary reception of the German translation of Grande Sertão: Veredas, according to Goethe's concept of Weltliteratur. The theoretical base for this study is the Reader Response Criticism, mainly according to Wolfgang Iser's and Hans Robert JauB' presuppositions. The theoretical chapter presents the operational concepts of the Reader Response Criticism, starting from its struturalistic roots. Then it is discussed what relationship between a literary reception study and a translated text analysis is possible. The answers are looked for in some Goethe's positons and in discussions the first German romantic movement made in this sense. After that, Berman's model of translation analysis is presented, whose employment will make the application of the theory possible, as detailed in the corresponding chapter. Chapter Il is devoted to the task of presenting the results from the previous translation analysis according to Berman's suggestions. Then, a reconstruction of the reader's expectations horizon in relation to the Latin-American literature has to be made. Chapter III brings the analysis of the German and Portuguese texts of Rosa's romance, as well as a comparison with its translation into Italian. The conclusion indicates the existence. in this book, of a dialogue between a private and a wider and universal sense, which is taken as an exam of the universal literary tradition and the one of sertão. Chapter IV analyzes the documents that register the reception of the German translation of Grande Sertão: Vereda5. It is verified that the previous chapter conclusion is reasonable it's reflected in the reception of the work
