O presente trabalho é dedicado a uma investigação da imagética dos alimentos refletida nas comédias atenienses do fim do século V a.C. O tema alimentício nas comédias é estudado por uma dupla perspectiva: seja seu uso propriamente mítico-literário (imagens, metáforas, alegorias com os alimentos), seja ainda a partir do retrato histórico-social que eles ajudam a revelar sobre a Atenas clássica, o modo de produção, circulação e consumo dos alimentos. A divisão em três capítulos procura dar conta de alguns temas cômicos em que a alimentação figura de forma proeminente: 1) as utopias no tempo de Cronos, a Era de Ouro em que o trabalho inexistia e os alimentos brotavam automaticamente da terra; 2) Os cereais como base da dieta grega, assim como os mitos relacionados a Deméter e outras divindades associadas ao mundo agrícola; 3) Os vinhos e sua importância tanto econômica, para a região da Ática, assim como sua ampla representação mitológica e literária, em torno das narrativas de Dioniso. A abordagem literária proposta no trabalho parte da teoria do reflexo estético, desenvolvida por Georgy Lukács, em sua Estética (1963) da maturidade, de cunho marxista, procurando revelar as conexões entre a realidade material ateniense e suas representações no palco cômico (seu reflexo estético). Valho-me também de muitos estudos nas áreas da História da Alimentação, Sociologia, Economia Política, Antropologia e outras que ajudaram a situar o meu objeto de estudo em seu contexto histórico e social, assim como traçar análises menos anacrônicas e mais precisas a partir das representações fantasiosas e, ao mesmo tempo, realistas retratadas nas comédias.

The present work is dedicated to an investigation of food imagery reflected in Athenian comedies of the late 5th century BC. The food theme in comedies is studied from a double perspective: whether its properly mythical-literary use (images, metaphors, allegories with food), or from the historical-social portrait that they help to reveal about classical Athens, the mode of production, circulation, and consumption of food. The division into three chapters seeks to account for some comic themes in which food figures prominently: 1) the utopias in the time of Cronos, the Golden Age in which work did not exist and food sprouted automatically from the earth; 2) Cereals as the basis of the Greek diet, as well as myths related to Demeter and other deities associated with the agricultural world; 3) Wines and their economic importance for the Attica region, as well as their wide mythological and literary representation, around the narratives of Dionysus. The literary approach proposed in the work is based on the theory of aesthetic reflection, developed by Georgy Lukács, in his Aesthetics (1963), of a Marxist nature, seeking to reveal the connections between the Athenian material reality and its representations on the comic stage (its aesthetic reflection). I also make use of many studies in the areas of the History of Food, Sociology, Political Economy, Anthropology, and others that have helped to place my object of study in its historical and social context, as well as drawing less anachronistic and more precise analyzes from the fantastic and, at the same time, realistic representations portrayed in comedies.
