Abstract in English
This thesis analyzes the association between cinema and the city of São Paulo through movie theaters. As there were many cinemas in the period, the work emphasizes the places that were listed as part of the municipal historical heritage. There are seven cinemas present in the Vale do Anhangabaú region and that are why they became historical heritages when the entire region was preserved. The objective, therefore, is to understand, through the analysis of these and other exhibition rooms, the importance of the seventh art for the growth of the city of São Paulo, as well as its influence on the culture and sociability of São Paulo. The explored sources were newspapers, with an emphasis on the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo and magazines that circulated between the 1920s and 1950s, used respecting the historiographical debate that began in the 1960s, whose strand was based on the acceptance of cinema as an active agent in the social and urban transformations that took place in the capital of São Paulo. throughout the 20th century.
