Esta tese teve como objetivo compreender as dinâmicas da distribuição de mercadorias e as redefinições nos usos do território, a partir da implantação e funcionamento dos centros de distribuição na Macrometrópole de São Paulo, num contexto marcado pelas inovações do período e meio técnico-científico-informacional e pelo imperativo da fluidez territorial e da logística. Os centros de distribuição - objeto de estudo desta tese - integram as estratégias logísticas das empresas hegemônicas e constituem objetos que cada vez mais se impõem à realização da atual distribuição de mercadorias por parte destes agentes. Nosso ponto de partida é a teoria crítica do espaço proposta por Milton Santos, que nos forneceu os instrumentos conceituais para a interpretação dos centros de distribuição. Os procedimentos metodológicos adotados consistiram em revisão bibliográfica, análise de dados secundários e trabalho de campo, durante os quais foram visitados centros de distribuição e entrevistados agentes envolvidos na gestão e funcionamento desses objetos. A análise geográfica empreendida permite afirmar que os centros de distribuição se dispersam em redes seletivas pelo território, conformando uma topologia própria que revela o meio técnico-científico-informacional em uma de suas expressões. A preferência pela Macrometrópole Paulista se confirma por ser esta o principal mercado consumidor, o principal ponto de destino de mercadorias do país, e a localização que apresenta excelentes condições de fluidez. Essas atividades operacionais se expandiram e se intensificaram no entorno metropolitano de São Paulo, com aumento expressivo de número e área dos centros de distribuição, nas últimas décadas, ao longo dos eixos rodoviários, incorporando novas áreas sob uma lógica imobiliário-financeira, que indica que a atividade logística se apresenta hoje como um elemento constitutivo da produção dos lugares metropolitanos, com o poder de estruturar e reorganizar o território. Enquanto a metrópole de São Paulo, por seu turno, tem seu papel de centro de gestão do capital e do território ampliado, fato que fica evidente pela localização das sedes e escritórios dessas empresas fortemente concentrada nesta metrópole

This thesis aimed to understand the dynamics of the distribution of goods and the redefinitions in the Territory uses, from the implantation and functioning of the distribution centers in the Macro metropolis of São Paulo, in a context marked by the innovations of the technical-scientific-informational period and milieu and by the imperative of the territorial and logistical fluidity. Distribution centers - object of study in this thesis - they are part of the logistical strategies of hegemonic companies and constitute objects that are increasingly imposed on the realization of the current distribution of goods by these agents. Our starting point is the critical theory of space proposed by Milton Santos, who provided us with the conceptual instruments for the interpretation of distribution centers. The methodological procedures adopted consisted of a bibliographic review, analysis of secondary data and fieldwork, during which distribution centers were visited and agents involved in the management and operation of these objects were interviewed. The geographical analysis carried out allows us to state that the distribution centers are dispersed in selective networks throughout the territory, forming a topology of its own that reveals the technical-scientific-informational milieu in one of its expressions. The preference for the Macro Metropolis of São Paulo is confirmed because it is the main consumer market, the main point of destination for goods in the country, and the location which presents the excellent fluidity conditions. These operational activities have expanded and intensified in the metropolitan area of São Paulo, with a significant increase in the number and area of distribution centers, in recent decades, along road axes, incorporating new areas under a real estate-financial logic, which indicates that logistic activity presents itself today as a constitutive element of the production of metropolitan places, with the power to structure and reorganize the territory. While the metropolis of São Paulo, in turn, has its role as a capital management center and the expanded territory, a fact that is evident by the location of the headquarters and offices of these companies, which are heavily concentrated in this metropolis
