Esta etnografia trata de um conjunto de favelas e ocupações que desde os anos 1970 vem se desenvolvendo e proliferando na Vila Maria (São Paulo). A ideia de ocupar como forma de vida se refere não apenas às mobilizações sociais por moradia do passado e presente, mas também à vida cotidiana que passa a se desenvolver nos espaços ocupados, onde as práticas e interações humanas precisam ser compreendidas em conjunto com as características dos espaços, construções e materialidades. Em meio a esta amplitude de aspectos, privilegio a análise de uma série de disposições, sentimentos, valores e práticas por meio das quais meus interlocutores dão sentido à existência, se organizam parcialmente e conquistam moradia e outros benefícios, em meio à percepção de adversidades e injustiças permanentes, sem alimentar expectativas de mudança (seja nas condições de vida locais ou em relação à política e à sociedade de modo geral). Assim compreendida, a forma de vida ocupação produz histórias que não se enquadram nos gêneros trágico ou heróico, compondo um terceiro tipo de narrativas, relevantes para pensar as possibilidades da ação política em tempos de antropoceno -- ou seja, em meio a uma realidade contemporânea mundial cada vez mais marcada por crises, retrocessos e incertezas de todo tipo.

This ethnography deals with a set of favelas and occupations that since the 1970s has been developing and proliferating in Vila Maria (São Paulo). The idea of occupying as a lifeform refers not only to the social mobilizations for housing of the past and present, but also to the daily life that starts to develop in the occupied spaces, where human practices and interactions need to be understood together with the characteristics of the spaces, constructions and materialities. Amidst this range of aspects, I privilege the analysis of a series of dispositions, feelings, values and practices through which my interlocutors give meaning to existence, partially organize themselves, and conquer housing and other benefits, amidst the perception of permanent adversities and injustices, without nurturing expectations of change (whether in local living conditions or in relation to politics and society in general). Thus understood, the idea of occupy as a lifeform produces stories that do not fit into the tragic or heroic genres, composing a third type of narratives, relevant for thinking about the possibilities of political action in the anthropocene -- that is, in the midst of a contemporary reality increasingly marked by crises, setbacks, and uncertainties of all kinds.
