Abstract in English
The present study focuses on examining the production and circulation of children's books in Brazil throughout the 20th century, with the aim of gathering a collection of works by literary authors who are not traditionally associated with children's literature. The exploration of this thematic universe began with a review of academic production on children's literature published in educational journals between 2000 and 2020. These texts served as an opportunity to revisit key theoretical milestones, starting from the emergence of debates on children's literature in the country, as seen in the works of Leonardo Arroyo and Cecília Meireles in the 1950s and 1960s, to the critical and historiographical efforts led by Marisa Lajolo and Regina Zilberman from the 1980s onwards. In a second phase, we sought to investigate the relationship between literature and education, aiming to trace the impact of pedagogical discourses, particularly regarding the notion of childhood, on the production of children's literature. The third part of the study involved an exploration of the empirical sources, that entailed the creation of a collection of children's books in which animality takes center stage, following the concept of zooliterature as proposed by researcher Maria Esther Maciel. In these books, a different desire for interaction with children seems to emerge, detached from the imperative of infantilizing the readers.
