O presente trabalho investiga a maneira como Platão transformou discursivamente sua Apologia de Sócrates em texto protréptico. Trata-se de uma hipótese que concebe na forma como o texto é escrito um caminho para se compreender o conteúdo exortativo da defesa socrática. Sob esse ângulo, a interpretação que se segue é entender o gênero judiciário exibido no enredo não apenas enquanto instrumento agonístico, do qual Platão se apropria com o intuito que seu personagem Sócrates, na condição de réu, empreendesse uma arguição adequada no tribunal. Assim, além desse aspecto litigioso, argumenta-se aqui que o gênero judiciário, por intermédio de expedientes retóricos e dramáticos, fornece para a argumentação geral da obra uma função educativa (de conversão pedagógica), que induz o leitor (ou ouvinte) a nutrir interesse pela filosofia. Visando demonstrar de que modo isso se procede, a pesquisa divide-se em dois eixos, quais sejam: (i) o estudo acerca da temporalidade do discurso forense; (ii) a análise das características principais do cenário do tribunal. Com base nesses dois tópicos, observar-se-á como Platão ofertou a seu protagonista Sócrates uma performance multifacetada na trama, a saber: atuando tanto como orador que se defende das acusações, quanto como soldado designado por deus de Delfos a realizar uma elocução laudatória de sua atividade filosófica na cidade.

This dissertation investigates how Plato discursively transformed his Apology of Socrates into a protreptic text. It is a hypothesis that conceives in the form in which the text is written a way to understand the exhortative content of the Socratic defense. From this angle, the interpretation followed is to understand the judicial genre displayed in the plot not only as a agonistic instrument, of which Plato appropriates himself with the intention that his character Socrates, in the condition of defendant, would undertake a proper defense in court. Besides this litigious aspect, it is argued here that the judicial genre, through rhetoric and dramatic expedients, provides for the general argumentation of the work an educational function (of pedagogical conversion), which induces the reader (or listener) to take an interest in philosophy. In order to demonstrate how this is done, the research is divided in two axes: (i) the study of the temporality of the forensic discourse; (ii) the analysis of the main characteristics of the courtroom scenario. Based on these two topics, we will observe how Plato offered his protagonist Socrates a multifaceted performance in the plot: acting, thus, both as an orator who defends himself against the accusations and as a soldier designated by the god of Delphi to perform a laudatory elocution of his philosophical activity in the city.
