Keywords in Portuguese

Representações semióticas
Triângulo de Sierpinki

Abstract in English
Research shows that using several systems of semiotic representation in sequences and series, in Basic Education, enriches Mathematics learning, and it is needed to develop intuitive aspects which allows generalization processes. Understanding, discriminating and knowing how to use different registers is not spontaneous and needs to be worked on by Mathematics teachers in classroom, in a complementary form to the textbook. For this reason, research theme of this Professional Master's Dissertation in Mathematics Teaching is to identify if the participants evolve good intuitive aspects and interrelate intuitive, algorithmic and formal aspects. Also, which difficulties they have in conversion and treatment processes of different semiotic representation registers used in geometric sequences and series and which conceptions of infinity may be identified in the answers given to the proposed activities. It is expected to answer three questions: Does a teaching approach based on several registers of semiotic representation favor the interaction of algorithmic, intuitive and formal aspects in geometric sequences and series?, What conceptions of infinity emerge in participants' responses in sequences and geometric series? and What are the difficulties explained by the participants in the processes of processing and converting geometric sequences and series?. Three teaching proposals were elaborated, based on Sierpinski Triangle, and the first of them was applied to seven Brazilian High School students and to a group of 13 teachers and graduates, whose analysis is included in this text. As an expected final product of a Professional Master's Degree, the activities proposed, and redesigned, for using by Mathematics teachers in Basic Education is left, with elements that may be considered interesting for teaching geometric sequences and series and also for working with infinite conceptions that appear in the subject.
