Abstract in English
This dissertation aims to investigate the relationship of São Paulo's writer Mário de Andrade (1893-1945) with the city of Rio de Janeiro, considering the impacts of his move to the then federal capital in 1938. Through the analysis of 60 letters he sent to nineteen correspondents during this year, gathered by the research, as well as other writings, we follow a moment of crisis in the writer's life, triggered by his departure from the leadership of the Department of Culture of the Municipality of São Paulo, role he held since its foundation in 1935. Thus, we seek to understand how he relates to the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and the changes in the political landscape following the establishment of the Estado Novo dictatorship. We bring into focus biographical aspects, capturing the imagery created by the author of Macunaíma in relation to the cariocas and the similarities or differences between the sociabilities of intellectuals in these two Brazilian cities.
