Wear
Abstract in English
This work can be summarized as a wear experimental study complemented with theoretical analysis for a metallic pair of surfaces with relative sliding movement in the presence of lubricant oil. The surfaces were tested in a pin-on-disk device so, the experiments were carried out in six different condition of normal load, and such parameter was the main variable. ASTM B169 was the selected bronze aluminum for pin samples while the counterparts were manufactured of AISI SAE H13 steel. A paraffinic mineral oil with SAE 30 classification was applied as lubricant fluid. Wear characterization was performed by optical and scanning electron microscopic and profilometer technique was also applied. Moreover, the friction coefficient behavior was evaluated in function of the applied normal load. Some physical and computational models were used to understand how the system works. Archard and Greenwood-Williamson models were the selected ones; the latter is applied in connection with Reynolds` equation to predict the hydrodynamic regime. The obtained findings allowed us to conclude that there is material transfer from pin to the counter face and ploughing is present on the worn pin surface during run-in period and at this point ahead the system is governed by hydrodynamic lubrication regime, which justifies the mild wear regime.
