SWOT analysis
Abstract in English
This dissertation aims to analyze the factors that affect the expansion of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) car-type in Brazil, contributing to the production of relevant knowledge to the diverse sectors that are affected by the characteristics of the transportation sector. The historical context and evolution of BEVs are analyzed, presenting the reasons that made them lose the battle against vehicles powered by internal combustion engines in the early 20th century. Then, the conjunctures related to conventional vehicles that interact with BEVs are analyzed and also the specific characteristics and circumstances of the BEVs. Ultimately, a SWOT analysis is performed consolidating the data obtained. It is concluded that the massification of BEVs to the point of becoming the leading automotive technology in the main Brazilian market, and not only in restricted and elite markets, depends on overcoming several complex challenges and tends to be a slow process. In Brazil, hybrid vehicles converge as a very suitable vehicle electrification option, combining the advantages of electric motorization and internal combustion motorization in addition to serving the various political and economic interests that shape the characteristics of the national vehicle transport matrix.
