Keywords in Portuguese
Aço inoxidável
Juntas soldadas

Abstract in English
The effect of magnetic arc oscillation on heat affected zone (HAZ) structure, weld metal structure and mechanical properties in autogenous GTA welds of AISI 409 stainless steel was investigated by means of notch impact testing and tensile testing. Magnetic arce oscillation was conducted by using a magnetic arc oscillator (Powcon 90A). Three different oscillation patterns, i.e., transverse, longitudinal and circular, were used in the study. It was verified that the grain size of HAZ was reduced by magnetic arc oscillation during welding, especially with transverse and cicular arc oscillation, and correspondingly the tenacity of HAZ was improved. However, the correct selection of welding parameters is very important. Microstructure refinement of weld metal, on the other hand, was achieved in welds made with all three types of arc oscillation patterns in the higher frequency and amplitude range.
