Um modelo semi-empirico de descricao das oscilacoes transversais de uma estrutura devido ao desprendimento alternado de vortices e estudado. Ensaios com cilindros circulares lisos em tanque de provas na faixa do numero de reynolds em torno de '10 POT.4' foram realizados visando a comparacao dos resultados com os valores obtidos teoricamente atraves do modelo, demonstrando que apesar da simplicidade de um modelo de apenas um grau de liberdade baseado na equacao de van der pol, este consegue reproduzir o comportamento global da estrutura possuindo uma capacidade preditiva, principalmente na regiao de ressonancia onde e importante o conhecimento de amplitudes e frequencias de vibracao para estimativa de vida em fadiga.

A semi empirical model describing the transversal oscillations of a structure caused by vortex shedding has been studied. Experiments with smooth circular cylinders in towing tank in Reynolds numbers of about 104 were realized for comparison with results from the studied model, showing that, in spite of the simplicity of a one-degree-of-freedom model based on van der Pol equation, it reproduces fairly well the structures global behaviour, having a predictive capability, specially in the ressonance region where the knowlewdge of amplitudes and frequencies is importante for estimating stress life of the structure.
