Abstract in English
The flow around one and two circular cylinders arranged side by side and in tandem is studied experimentally in a wind tunnel and numerically using spectral element methods. The numerical study was carried out for low Reynolds number for a single circular cylinder with 60 < Re < 600, two circular cylinders arranged side by side with gap ranging from 0.25D up to 5D with Re = 100 and Re = 200 and, finally, two circular cylinders arranged in tandem with gap ranging from 0.25D up to 10D with Re = 100 and 200. In the wind tunnel, the drag coefficient was measured for a single circular cylinders and two circular cylinders arranged side by side and in tandem with gaps ranging from 1D up to 6D using a load cell and pressure measurements with 1 x 10´POT.4´ < Re < 4 x 10´POT.4´. Under these same circumstances, the correlation coefficient of two pressure signals taken simultaneously on the surface of one cylinder was measured to determine the tri-dimensionality of the flow. With these correlation coefficients, the correlation length was determined.
