Este trabalho tem como objetivo estudar o processo de furação em aços com brocas helicoidais de aço rápido. São dados os principais conceitos pertinentes às brocas helicodais e ao processo de furação. Foram realizados ensaios com medições dos esforços no processo de furação, e para tal, foi construído um dinamômetro instrumentado com extensômetros. São apresentados os resultados dos ensaios realizados com variações de velocidade de corte e avanço para os aços ABNT 1020 e 4320 utilizando-se de brocas helicoidais de aço rápido com afiação cônica e em cruz. Também é apresentado o comportamento do desgaste e dos esforços em função do número de furos para os aços ABNT 1040 e 5140.

This work aims to study the drilling process of steels with high speed steel twist drills. The main concepts of drilling process and twist drills are presented. The experimental procedure was carried out by the measurements of the drilling cutting forces, and for this, a strain gage dynamometer was constructed. The results of the experiments with variations of cut speed and feed rate for the ABNT 1020 and 4320 steels with conical and cross sharpened high speed steel drills are presented. The wear and the cutting forces with the number of holes for the ABNT 1040 and 5140 also is presented.
