Esta dissertação se propõe a investigar a incorporação do procedimento de detecção e reconhecimento de indivíduos em trabalhos artísticos. Encontramos diversos trabalhos com procedimentos decorrentes da aproximação entre os campos da arte e tecnologia e da biometria, que registram dados singulares do público ou operam com generalizações de suas aparências. A adaptação de recursos biométricos instaura uma série de implicações significativas para os contextos e discursos inerentes aos trabalhos artísticos em questão. Ao longo desta dissertação, foram abordados tanto os princípios operacionais, os conceitos e as estratégias da biometria, bem como o desdobramento desses princípios em procedimentos e táticas artísticas que lidam com o indivíduo presente na experiência. Exploramos a contextualização das medidas corporais e da capacidade de medir o corpo fundamentais à biometria, examinamos os contextos sociais e técnicos que permeiam o âmbito biométrico e analisamos um conjunto de trabalhos artísticos a partir da indicação de autores que identificam um segmento de arte biométrica. Também realizamos experimentos artísticos conduzidos por conceitos biométricos que retroalimentaram o processo desta pesquisa como um todo.

This research aims to investigate the procedure of detection and recognition of individuals into artistic works. These strategies stem from the convergence of art, technology, and biometrics. The adaptation of biometric resources also gives rise to a range of significant implications for the contexts and discourses inherent to the artworks in question. Throughout this dissertation, we have addressed both the operational principles, concepts, and strategies of biometrics, as well as the unfolding of these principles into artistic procedures and tactics for engaging with the individual. We explore the contextualization of bodily measurements and the capacity to measure the body that underpin biometrics, we examine the social and technical contexts that permeate the biometric domain, and analyze a set of artworks based on the indications of authors identifying a kind of biometric art. At the end, we present the records of artistic experiments conducted as an integral part of this investigation.
