Abstract in English
This research seeks to investigate the restructuring process that took place in port cities from the containerization movement and the logistical changes that occurred globally in the 1970s, which boosted economic competitiveness on global routes. Given the context of Latin American port production, the research has as its object of study the Port of Valparaíso, which has historically developed as the most important Port City in Chile and currently, together with the Port of San Antonio, mobilizes almost the entirety of general cargo in the central Chilean area. The main objective of the research is to analyze the restructuring process of the Port of Valparaíso, through the evaluation of port modernizations and their urban conditions, given its regional scale on the Chilean coast and the impact on economic development in the structuring of the Region of Valparaíso and of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago. Based on methodological research applied to qualitative and quantitative methods, of territorial assessment, that allow us to understand the restructuring process of the Port of Valparaíso, through the historical, economic and urban structuring dynamics that impact the planning and modernization policies of the City-Porto relationship.
