A cidade de São Paulo é marcada por um espigão central que na atualidade é percorrida por meio automóveis pelas avenidas, por meio de bicicletas pelas ciclovias e por meio de transporte coletivo pelas linhas de metrô e de ônibus. Segundo uma regra universal e pré-histórica, os caminhos dos espigões e de divisores de águas eram as rotas naturais para os povos nômades e semi-nômades por oferecer segurança e conforto nas caminhadas. Porém, durante a pesquisa sobre os estratos formadores da cidade de São Paulo não foi identificado vestígios textuais e cartográficos da existência de um caminho pré-colombiano no trecho central do espigão central, correspondente ao trecho da atual avenida Paulista. Este caminho do espigão central é considerado um dos ramais do caminho do Peabiru, que ligava o oceano Atlântico ao oceano Pacífico. A condição privilegiada da convergência de caminhos terrestres e fluviais no local escolhido para a fundação da missão jesuítica no campo de Piratininga era apenas um dos nós de caminhos pré-colombianos no Planalto Paulista. Porém, este nó foi o mais importante para a colonização portuguesa, devido à passagem do caminho do Peabiru do litoral para o sertão, à proximidade do caminho fluvial pelo rio Tietê e outros caminhos em direção norte e noroeste. O povoado de São Paulo cresceu em torno deste nó principal para todas as direções periféricas da metrópole atual, porém o traçado do caminho original se manteve em forma de estrada de ferro, avenidas e rodovias. A resiliência dos traçados destes caminhos pré-colombianos é demonstrada por meio de destaque destes caminhos nos mapas históricos.

The city of São Paulo is marked by a central ridge that is currently traveled by cars through the avenues, by bicycles through bike lanes and by a collective transport by subway and bus lines. According to a universal and prehistoric rule, the paths of the ridges and watersheds were the natural routes for nomadic and semi-nomadic people for offering safety and comfort on walks. However, during the research on the formative layers of the city of São Paulo was not identified textual and cartographic traces of the existence of a pre-Columbian path in the central stretch of the central ridge, corresponding to the stretch of the current Paulista Avenue. This path of the central ridge is considered one of the branches of the path of the Peabiru path, which connected the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The privileged condition of the convergence of terrestrial and fluvial paths in the place chosen for the foundation of the Jesuítica mission in the Piratininga field was only one of the nodes of pre-Columbian paths in the Planalto Paulista. However, this node was the most important for the Portuguese colonization, due to the passage of the Peabiru path from the coast to the hinterland, the proximity of the river path by the Tietê river and other paths in north and northwest direction. The village of São Paulo grew around this main node to all peripheral directions of the current metropolis, but the layout of the original path remained in the form of railroad, avenues and highways. The resilience of the traces of these pre- Columbian paths is demonstrated by highlighting these paths in the historical maps.
