O presente trabalho é uma investigação das relações entre colonialidade e modernidade no processo de valoração que transformou em peças de museu três protótipos de unidades habitacionais pré-fabricadas em metal projetadas e produzidas pela empresa francesa Ateliers Jean Prouvé, chefiada pelo designer e construtor Jean Prouvé. Os protótipos que ficaram conhecidos como Maisons Tropicales [Casas Tropicais] foram instalados entre os anos de 1949 e 1951 em Niamey (Níger) e Brazzaville (República do Congo), acompanhando investimentos e diretrizes do projeto colonial francês do segundo pós-guerra. Depois de cinco décadas distantes do interesse de seus construtores e comitentes, as casas foram removidas das respectivas cidades, transportadas, restauradas e inseridas em espaços expositivos de universidades, galerias, casas de leilão e museus. Na década de 2000, elas participaram, inteiras ou em partes, de um intenso período de exposições em capitais do Norte global. A pesquisa buscou construir uma biografia desses artefatos ressaltando o uso particular da diferença climática pelas narrativas que envolveram desde sua demanda até as justificativas de sua remoção das cidades africanas nos anos 2000.

The present work is an investigation of the relations between coloniality and modernity in the valuation process that turned three prototypes of prefabricated metal housing units into museum pieces. These prototypes were designed and produced by the French company Ateliers Jean Prouvé, led by designer and builder Jean Prouvé. The prototypes, known as Maisons Tropicales (Tropical Houses), were installed between 1949 and 1951 in Niamey (Niger) and Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), following investments and guidelines from the French colonial project in the post-World War II era. After being distant from the interest of their creators and clients for five decades, the houses were removed from their respective cities, transported, restored, and placed in exhibition spaces such as universities, galleries, auction houses, and museums. In the 2000s, either in their entirety or in parts, they were featured in a period of intense exhibitions in capitals of the global North. The research aimed to construct a biography of these artifacts, highlighting the specific use of climatic difference through the narratives that encompassed their demand and the justifications for their removal from African cities in the 2000s.
