Abstract in English
Adolf Franz Heep was born in 1902 in Fachbach, Germany. His formation as an architect resulted from his studies and later work housing projects with Adolf Meyer, in Frankfurt, in the 20s and the studies at the Ecole Spéciale dArchitecture in Paris, with Mallet Stevens in 1928, when he imigrated to France. In Paris he had worked with André Luçat and Le Corbusier, from whom he suffered his largest influences. When left to Brazil, leaving the hardness of the war, he was associated with Jean Ginsberg, his friend at the Ecole Spéciale dArchitecture from 1932 to 1945. With Ginsberg, Heep consolidated the bases of his performance as an architect, materialized in three buildings in Paris between 1934 and 1935. These buildings summarized the ideals that would orientate his future works in Brazil: professionalism and the method work, with the introduction of technological innovations, applied both in the project and in the construction; the exaggerating taste for the detail and the comprehension of daily middle class needs. When arrived in Brazil in 1947, Heep had already consolidated in Paris the practice of a qualified architectural production directed to the real estate market. He found here a real estate market in expansion, which made possible an intense professional performance and experimentation. The use of rationalized construction methods, the compact program and a very precise interpretation of the urban legislation were decisive for the success of several buildings. His most famous works are the headquarters of the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, from the time he had worked for Jacques Pilon, the buildings Itália and Lausane. The value of his work, however, doesnt lay on his isolated works, but in the quality and coherence of the group of buildings: numerous quitinetes, corner buildings and characteristic details.
