Há, no imaginário da população de Ribeirão Preto, a ideia de que a Vila Tibério, um de seus primeiros bairros, tenha se formado a partir da instalação de uma unidade fabril da Cia. Cervejaria Antarctica em suas terras, no início do século XX. Ao final do século XIX, porém, Ribeirão Preto foi integrada ao ciclo cafeeiro, resultando em uma crescente procura pelas terras locais e regionais. Nesse cenário, um migrante contador chamado Tibério Augusto Garcia de Senna, o loteador da Vila, chegou a Ribeirão Preto buscando oportunidades nesse nicho econômico, tendo a terra como principal elemento de suas negociações. Este trabalho busca identificar, por meio de uma pesquisa histórica documental, utilizando fontes primarias e secundárias, as principais causas da formação do loteamento Vila Tibério, investigando se há, de fato, uma ligação entre a formação do bairro com a chegada da Cia. Cervejaria Antárctica em suas terras, não deixando de considerar as condicionantes econômicas, políticas e sociais que envolviam o local e, principalmente, o mercado de terras na passagem do século XIX para o XX.

There is the idea in the imaginary of the population of Ribeirão Preto that Vila Tibério, one of the first neighborhoods in the city, was formed due to the installation of a manufacturing unit of Cia. Cervejaria Antarctica on its lands, at the beginning of the 20th century. However, at the end of the 19th century, Ribeirão Preto started taking part in the Brazilian cycle of coffee exportation; therefore, there was a growing demand for local and regional land. In this context, an accountant migrant called Tibério Augusto Garcia de Senna, who was responsible for the subdivision of the land in the neighborhood, arrived in Ribeirão Preto looking for opportunities in this economic niche, and real estate was the main element of his negotiations. This work aims to identify, through documental historical research, using primary and secondary sources, the main reasons of the formation and subdivision of Vila Tibério, investigating if actually there is a connection between the formation of the district and the arrival of Cia. Cervejaria Antárctica on its lands, not forgetting to consider the economic, political and social conditions which involved the place, and mainly the land market, in the passage from the 19th to the 20th century.
