Abstract in English
This work deals with the construction of the industrial and railway heritage in Catanduva-SP, having as its premise its relations with the coffee-railway binomial, with the arrival of the Araraquara Railway (EFA) to the city, and with the cotton boom. The period covers the year 1910, when EFA was installed in Catanduva, until 1970, a period in which coffee was replaced as the main crop by sugar cane and the railways were scrapped due to highway policies. By taking the industrial buildings adjacent to the railway line as objects of analysis, this study seeks to contribute to the historiography of Catanduva, which lacks regional and/or academic work that addresses the history of the buildings in its railway complex and that shows the coffee binomial -railway and cotton as triggers of material transformations in the city. The general objective of this research is to understand the role of the Araraquara Railway in the construction of the identity of the urban landscape in Catanduva. Specific objectives include investigating the history of buildings, their architecture, uses, interventions and agents involved in their construction; the assessment of the state of preservation and conservation of Catanduva's industrial heritage; and the attribution of value and meaning to this heritage for collective memory. The working methods employed include Historical Research, which analyzes the relationships between historiographical problems, documentary sources and bibliographic references, and the Case Study, which involves documentary survey and on-site visits to each of the selected buildings. Thus, through the relationship between the city, the coffee-railway binomial and the cotton boom, this work seeks to identify the meaning of this industrial heritage as a whole for Catanduva.
