Abstract in English
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the end of gestation, parturition, the puerperium and the occurrence of acute puerperal metritis on the constituents of the blood count of Zebu cattle (Bos taurus indicus), of the Tabapuã breed, raised in the State of São Paulo. The Zebu females were monitored during the 45 days before parturition and up to 60 days after parturition. Blood samples were collected with EDTA as an anticoagulant by puncture of the external jugular or coccygeal vein, using the Vacutainer ™ System. The determination of erythrocyte was performed in the automated counter BC-2800 Vet Mindray ®. In the first experiment, outlined to evaluate the influence of the end gestation, parturition and puerperium, sample were collected from 12 animals. In the second experiment, outlined at evaluating the influence of acute puerperal metritis on the hemogram, samples were collected from 12 Zebu females that had a physiological puerperium and 12 Zebu females that had acute puerperal metritis. The collection days for both experiments were: 45 to 31, 30 to 26, 25 to 21, 20 to 16, 15 to 11, 10 to 7, 6 to 4, 3 to 2, 1 day before the parturition, day of the parturition, 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 30, 45 and 60 days after parturition. When evaluating the influence at the end of gestation, parturition and puerperium, it was observed that the hemoglobin rates and the globular volume found at the end of gestation gradually increased with the approach of delivery, and reached their maximum values at the beginning of the puerperium (3 days after childbirth). In the last days of gestation, a gradual increase in the number of leukocytes was observed, with the leukocyte picture at the time of parturition being characterized by leukocytosis due to neutrophilia without a left shift. In the first days after parturition, it was still possible to observe this leukocytosis due to neutrophilia, which disappeared up to 3 days postpartum. At the end of gestation, hemoglobin levels and packed cell volume were lower in animals with metritis. During the puerperium, between 3 and 45 days postpartum, it was observed that these differences were maintained or increased. It was observed that between the end of gestation and during the puerperium, serum levels of total protein and globulins were higher in the group of animals with acute puerperal metritis and that serum levels of albumin were lower in the group of animals with acute puerperal metritis. Between the day of parturition and 21 days after parturition, plasma fibrinogen levels were higher in the group of animals with acute puerperal metritis. In the evaluation of leukogram (total number and differential leukocyte count) of Zebu cattle (Bos taurus indicus) during the transition period (between 45 days before parturition and 60 days after parturition), no statistical difference was found that could show the influence of acute puerperal metritis on leukogram.
