Abstract in English
The thesis reflected upon the relationship between the state (government) and the unions in Brazil through a geographical analysis perspective. To achieve a successful outcome, the research was based on comprehending how the territorialities of the revolutionary trade unions were under a liberal state, which, through a less coercive union legislation, enabled an organization of workers without territorial restrictions. On the other hand, however, the liberal state, also acted in a violent manner, while holding the main militant workers, closing down newspapers and the unions headquarters. We also seek to understand what meant, mainly under the liberal state, the presence of a greater militant unionism, the revolutionary unionism. The revolutionary unionism had self-management, federalism, and direct action under its premises, providing various forms of territoriality, not only among the unions of the same category but also when several entities of various categories were united in organizing an activity known at that time among the workers as solidarity strikes. Subsequently, our analysis focused on understanding this relationship between the state and the trade unions during the formation of a Corporate State in Brazil, with the predominance of a more limiting union legislation, forcing these entities to carry out a less plural territorial action, restricted almost exclusively to the municipality area. We realized that the territorial actions of the unions suffered great changes when the government shifted from a liberal state to a corporativist one, due to the rigid control over these entities. We understand that these analyses allow another perception of the relationship between government and the unions in Brazil, highlighting the role that territorial actions had on the daily struggle of these workers.
