Abstract in English
The objective of the present experiment was get information on sanitary quality of water to quench the thirst of animals in Botucatu region, State of Sao Paulo, 1974/75. From 105 water samples, of which 44 were from fountains and 61 from watering trough, determinations of NMP of coliform bacteria and fecal coliform bacteria were made, according the 13th edition of "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater", of the American Public Health Association. According to the government directive (Interior Ministry), the 44 fountains showed to be in accordance with the established parameters. As this government directive does not make reference to watering troughs, applying the some values established for fountains, we observed that from 61 of the samples examined only 6 proved to be outside the parameters. Of the 105 samples examined all showed good sanitary conditions, except 6 samples of the watering troughs in relation to fecal coliforms. Of these 6 samples 3 showed bad sanitary conditions too, but only regardine total coliforms.
