Abstract in English
This work aims to understand the expression of republican thought in seventeenth-century England, through the analysis of the concept of liberty in the political writings of John Milton, Marchamont Nedham, and James Harrington. The intention is to examine what was maintained, modified and abandoned of the republicanism, when it was appropriate and adapted by these authors, in defense of the political regime established between 1649 and 1660. It also intends to discuss how they introduced and articulated strange concepts to republican thought and its implications for the idea of liberty. The thesis is that these authors produced a republican theory, in which liberty was conceived as absence of domination. That theory was far from the civic humanism and Machiavelli republicanism, being more the result of a combination of ancient republicanism and English constitutional ideas
