A humanidade vive, neste início do século XXI, uma época sem precedentes na sua história. O desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico acumulado até o presente momento possibilita uma infinita gama de oportunidades. Os avanços da ciência e da tecnologia sempre foram materializados em significativas inovações de processos ou criações de produtos desde a presença do homem sobre a face da Terra. Parte constitutiva e constituinte da evolução da organização social e comportamental dos vários grupos humanos, bem como das suas mudanças culturais, a evolução da técnica e da ciência apresenta momentos de saltos significativos de desenvolvimento que, não por acaso, acham-se vinculados às transformações das diferentes sociedades humanas, em diferentes épocas. Visto sob perspectiva histórica, este tema coloca em pauta a condição atual da humanidade: ela vive uma época decisiva e caracterizada por uma sucessão de crises globais de natureza econômica e política. As dificuldades relativas à produção de alimentos, energia e abastecimento de água crescem a cada dia e somam-se aos problemas oriundos das alterações no meio ambiente e às suas respectivas conseqüências. Diante deste contexto, esta tese de livre-docência apresenta e fundamenta uma proposta de aplicação da ciência e da tecnologia da automação como ferramentas de viabilização para que a humanidade atinja uma nova etapa de desenvolvimento econômico e produtivo denominada "Ecoeconomia Tecnológica Cooperativa", na qual ainclusão social e a promoção do desenvolvimento sustentável são os seus principais objetivos.

Mankind is living, in the beginning of the 21st. Century, an era without precedent in its history. The scientific and technological development accrued up to the moment allows an infinite range of opportunities. The scientific and technological breakthroughs materialized in significant process innovations or product creation since man's presence on the face of the Earth. An integral part of the evolution of the social and behavioral organization of the various human groups, as well as of its cultural changes, the technical and scientific development presents moments of significant development leaps which, not by chance, are linked to the changes in the different human societies in different eras. From the historical point of view, this issue puts mankind's current status on the agenda: it is living a decisive time characterized by a series of global crises of economic and political nature. The difficulties related to food production, energy and water supply increase every day and add to the problems resulting from changes in the environment and their consequences. Within this context, this habilitation thesis presents and justifies a proposal to use science and automation technology as tools to make it viable for mankind to achieve a new economic and production development called "Cooperative Technological Ecoeconomics", in which social inclusion and promoting sustainable development are the major goals.
