Abstract in English
The Finite Element Method is used to study the fracture mechanics behavior of cylindrical welded structures under the influence of residual stresses and mechanical loads, as internal pressure. After a brief introduction, this study focuses some of the aspects relating to the imperfections induced by welding, where cracks, material brittleness and residual stresses are the main concern. A review of fracture analysis methodologies is done and a fracture control method is proposed. Then, using complex variable technique, formulations for a hybrid crack element are altered, in order to allow the use of parabolic distributions of residual stresses. A model for fracture analysis is proposed including considerations about plasticity and three-dimensionality. Finally, a finite element code is developed and used to estimate the critical crack sizes for the pressure vessel reactor of the Angra I Nuclear Plant submitted to six different loading conditions.
