Performance Audiovisual: uma poética entre meios
Keywords in Portuguese
-

Abstract in English
The thesis starts from the creation processes of Brazilian directors of Audiovisual Performance to discuss correspondence relationships between cinema, video, music and visual arts in this intermedia field, that exist between media. The live manipulation of the image and sound gives the image another statute, that will bring it closer to sound compositions. The performance takes place in the director, in the images and sounds, a relationship that is constituted in an act, according to the material devices used, having allies the possibility of the random. The materiality of the medium and the duration printed in the process of manipulation in real time or live programming from different languages, brings together image and sound. The image tends to the abstract, to transform itself into visual composition based on icons, which in theory do not represent anything, but shapes. According to Charles S. Peirce, these signs are qualities. The exploration of analog, electronic noise and the mesh of programming languages made visible by the performer, the variation in intensities in the manipulation of images, and information on the director's process, encode such vague images. They are still qualities, but with suggestion of meanings. Experiments in audiovisual performances have proved to be a fruitful field of creation.
