Há pesquisas em que a análise fatorial exploratória (AFE) foi usada em um contexto em que a confirmatória (AFC) seria a correta, resultando em fatores diferentes daqueles descritos nos referenciais teóricos, este problema foi denominado como destruição de escala. Para ilustrar que este problema pode ser corrigido, foram realizados três estudos empíricos-quantitativos com amostra de 126, 209 e 284 casos, respectivamente, que foram analisados por meio da modelagem de equações estruturais (SmartPLS e lavaan). Os resultados confirmaram a adequação das escalas revisadas e dos procedimentos propostos. A fim de prevenir a ocorrência da destruição de escala, foi planejado e executado um minicurso o final da pesquisa, onde foram discutidas as diferenças e semelhanças entre a AFE e AFC, bem como as situações em que cada uma deveria ser aplicada. Destacam-se algumas implicações dos resultados desta pesquisa: (i) não usar AFE quando se sabe a priori quantos e quais são os fatores. Se há desconfiança de que o fenômeno seja dependente do contexto, talvez o melhor seja iniciar por uma pesquisa qualitativa em vez de se confiar em instrumentos estrangeiros; (ii) para o ensino de AFE e AFC, pode se usar o conteúdo do minicurso no início do curso de análise fatorial, como uma forma de enfatizar as situações em que se deve usar AFE ou AFC; (iii) é necessário se revisar os materiais didáticos incluindo esta discussão; (iv) para a prática (gestores), há expectativa de que instrumentos mais adequados sejam desenvolvidos nos próximos anos

There are studies in which exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used in a context in which the confirmatory factor (CFA) would be correct, resulting in factors different from those described in the theoretical frameworks, this problem was termed as scale destruction. To illustrate that this problem can be corrected, three empirical-quantitative studies were conducted with a sample of 126, 209 and 284 cases, respectively, which were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SmartPLS and lavaan). The results confirmed the adequacy of the revised scales and the proposed procedures. To prevent the occurrence of scale destruction, a short course was planned and executed at the end of the research, where the differences and similarities between EFA and CFA were discussed, as well as the situations in which each should be applied. Some implications of the results of this research are highlighted: (i) do not use EFA when knowing a priori how many and what are the factors. If the phenomenon is suspected of being context-dependent, perhaps it is best to start with qualitative research rather than relying on foreign instruments; (ii) for teaching EFA and CFA, the short course content may be used at the beginning of the factor analysis course as a way of emphasizing the situations in which EFA or CFA should be used; (iii) it is necessary to revise the teaching materials including this discussion; (iv) for practice (managers), it is expected that more appropriate instruments will be developed in the coming years.
