A tese de livre-docência apresenta as atividades de pesquisa, resultados, análises e reflexões que envolveram o processo de desenvolvimento, publicação e recepção do documentário "Nas águas do Piracicaba", enquanto experiência transdisciplinar da linha de pesquisa em Ambiente e Sociedade. O trabalho foi desenvolvido na forma de um estudo de caso sobre a problemática da água - conservação, gestão e abastecimento - na região da cidade de Piracicaba (SP/Brasil) para comunicação aplicada à educação ambiental. O processo de produção desse material compreendeu a gravação e edição de dezoito entrevistas junto a gestores, pesquisadores e representantes do setor de abastecimento, do poder público e da sociedade civil, bem como estudos de conteúdo - desenvolvidos de modo integrado à gestão e editoria de um blog socioambiental; pesquisas documentais em jornais; levantamento de materiais em bancos de vídeos e arquivos de filmes e atividades de experimentação junto a grupos focais de audiência. O documentário foi finalizado com 54 minutos de duração e trabalha as temáticas da segurança hídrica e governança das águas no contexto da região de Piracicaba. Contextualiza e relata histórico que envolveu o processo de degradação da qualidade e quantidade das águas do rio Piracicaba, com destaque à implantação do Sistema Cantareira, e processo de mobilização que levou à formação do Consórcio Intermunicipal das Bacias dos rios Piracicaba, Capivari e Jundiaí (PCJ) e Comitês PCJ, por meio dos quais foi possível implantar o sistema de cobrança pelo uso da água e desenvolver ações para tratamento de esgotos e proteção dos mananciais. O material contém explicações sobre o sistema de classificação e formas de poluição das águas, sobre a estrutura hidrológica da bacia do rio Piracicaba e histórico de desenvolvimento da legislação (estadual e federal) para gestão dos recursos hídricos. Traz um panorama sobre a situação em que se encontra a bacia do rio Corumbataí, manancial que abastece a cidade de Piracicaba - situação das águas e da cobertura vegetal, e alternativas para conservação ambiental, complementadas por reflexões do campo da educação ambiental. A tese de livre-docência tem como objeto de análise essa experiência de produção e socialização de conhecimentos. Desenvolve reflexões sobre a temática trabalhada, epistemologia ambiental, produção documentária e ciências humanas. Explicita os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos que embasam a experiência, os métodos de pesquisa e procedimentos empregados para o estudo de caso e produção documentária e apresenta estudos sobre sua recepção junto a estudantes e sociedade em geral para avaliar performance socioeducativa. Com base nesses elementos desenvolvem-se discussões buscando-se apreender a dimensão heurística e epistemológica do trabalho desenvolvido e suas co-relações com a pesquisa científica no campo das ciências humanas e sociais.

This thesis presents the research activities, results, analyses and reflections that involved the development, publication and reception processes related to the documentary "In the waters of Piracicaba" as a transdisciplinary experience in the line of research "Environment and Society". The work was developed as a case study about the water issues - conservation, management and supply - in the region of Piracicaba (SP/Brazil), so it could be applied to the environmental education. The production process of such material included the recording and edition of eighteen interviews with the representatives, managers and researchers of the water supply sector, of the public power and of the civil society as well as a content analysis - developed along with the management and editorship of a socio-environmental blog; documentary research in newspapers, material collection in video and movie archives; and experimental activities done with focal groups. The documentary was completed with the duration of 54 minutes and it deals with themes such as water security and governance in the region of Piracicaba. It also contextualizes and narrates the history involving the degradation process of the Piracicaba river water quality and decreased flow, emphasizing the Cantareira System implementation and the mobilization process that led to the formation of the Inter-municipal Consortium and Committees of Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiaí river basins (PCJ), which enabled the establishment of a water usage charge system and the development of action plans for sewage treatment and protection of water sources. The material presents explanations about the water classification and types of water pollution as well as the hydrological structure of the Piracicaba river basin and the history of the legislation development (state and federal) for the management of water resources. It also provides an overview of the situation in which it is the Corumbataí river basin, the fountainhead that currently supplies the city of Piracicaba - the water and the vegetation cover situation and alternatives for environmental conservation - complemented by reflections on the environmental education field. The thesis has as object of analysis the experience of production and socialization of knowledge. It develops reflections on the theme in question, on the environmental epistemology, on the documentary production and on human sciences. The work also explains the theoretical and methodological assumptions that underlie the experience, the research methods and procedures applied to the case study and to the documentary production and it presents studies on how such material was received by the students and the society, making it possible to evaluate its socio-educational performance. Based on these elements, discussions are developed in order to engage a learning process about the heuristic and epistemological dimensions of the developed work and its correlations with the scientific research in the fields of human and social sciences.
