Abstract in English
The research aims to find associations, jointly, of the news of suspected involvement in corruption, of accounting disclosure on the subject and of CSR on the market value of companies. It was motivated by the recent corruption scandals involving the federal government and large Brazilian companies in recent years. It was developed by means of a regression, with panel data, with a sample of 22 companies mentioned in anti-corruption operations and 78 companies not listed, all listed in B3. In the period from 2012 to 2018. The results suggest that there is a positive association between disclosing more about corruption and the company's value, after the emergence of news of suspected involvement in corruption. A positive association was also found between CSR and company value, even when cited in reports of suspected corruption. The results are statistically significant, suggesting what to disclose more after the suspected involvement and participate in the CSR indices can lead to better pricing by the market. The research is relevant for testing together the role of accounting disclosure about the company's value in suspected corruption and the role of CSR in the company's value in cases of suspected corruption. In addition, it adapts and applies the accounting index that measures the risk of involvement of the company in corruption, developed by Lopatta et al. (2017). Finally, it provides a path that could be taken to monitor the risk of a company's involvement in corruption and to avoid it.
