O desenvolvimento tecnológico demanda das organizações alto investimento, que exigem técnicas para identificar caminhos que são tendência dentro de sua área de atuação. Nessa perspectiva, identificar os principais concorrentes e possíveis parceiros pode ajudar a reduzir o risco, especialmente em setores de tecnologia intensiva. A indústria farmacêutica, devido à sua intensidade tecnológica, busca constantemente informações que indiquem o melhor caminho de crescimento e desenvolvimento futuro, o que gera a necessidade de estudos de previsão tecnológica. Assim esse trabalho tem como objetivo geral de identificar a evolução das trajetórias tecnológicas resultantes do esforço de P&D&I das 20 maiores indústrias farmacêuticas no desenvolvimento de tecnologias que resultaram em depósitos de patentes. Para atender a esse objetivo, esta pesquisa utilizou como base metodológica a analise de redes sociais para mapear as rotas tecnológicas e identificar as inovações que compõem a fronteira tecnológica desse setor, a partir de citações de patentes. Em concomitância foi investigado os principais players dessas tecnologias emergentes e quais as estratégias utilizadas para alcançar esses desenvolvimentos tecnológicos. Houve ainda a utilização da análise de redes sociais dinâmicas a fim de apresentar a evolução ocorrida neste setor. Por fim num intuito de identificar a inserção dessas tecnologias emergentes no mercado, avaliou-se os estágios dos estudos clínicos. Assim observa-se que o setor farmacêutico é dinâmico tanto no desenvolvimento das tecnologias, como na formação do mercado.

Technological development demand high investment organizations, which require techniques to identify paths that are trend within its operating area. From this perspective, identifying key competitors and potential partners can help reduce risk, especially in technology-intensive industries. The pharmaceutical industry, because of its technological intensity, constantly seek information that indicates the best path of growth and future development, which generate the need for technological forecasting studies. Thus, this work has the general objective of identifying the evolution of technological trajectories resulting from the R & D & I efforts of the 20 largest pharmaceutical industries in the development of technologies that resulted in patent filings. To meet this objective, this research used as a methodological basis the analysis of social networks to map the technological routes and identify the innovations that make up the technological frontier of this sector, based on patent citations. At the same time, the main players of these emerging technologies were investigated, and the strategies used to achieve these technological developments. There was also the use of analysis of dynamic social networks in order to present the evolution occurred in this sector. Finally, in order to identify the insertion of these emerging technologies in the market, the stages of clinical studies were evaluated. Thus, it can be observed that the pharmaceutical sector is dynamic both in the development of technologies and in the formation of the market.
