Índice BOVESPA

Abstract in English
The present study aims to clarify whether good or bad economic news impacts the BOVESPA Index in different ways depending on the economic scenario. To infer about the negativity or positivity of economic news, a sentiment index is built based on 104.290 news items published about the Brazilian economy published by four big journals. The results pointed that periods of dispersion between the indices coincide with periods of instability, crisis or uncertainty. In periods of stability, the indices move together, that is, the BOVESPA Index and the Sentiment Index react proportionally and in the same direction. growing IBOV. Between 2009 and 2017, the good news in an unfavorable economic scenario was not able to boost the IBOV. From that period on, the IBOV reacts disproportionately to good news.
