Abstract in English
This doctoral research proposes a theoretical reflection on the art of performance in public spaces, alongside many examples of practical experiences based on the researcher's own work in the field of artistic activism ("artivism"). The line of action refers to the use of giant puppets in street demonstrations. Concrete proposals from performance groups in street demonstrations are also reported, mainly the experience with the "Coletivo Nova Pasta" and the "Coletivo Migranto", within a view inside the creative process. In addition, the contact with the Bread & Puppet Theater, during an artistic residency held in the community of Glover, Vermont, USA (2018), was an important reference. In this way it addresses the dissolution of the boundaries between art and life, as well as art and politics. On the other hand, in an approach to the Brazilian context, we seek to find links between the art of performance and popular traditions, such as the giant puppets of the street carnival in Olinda, northeastern state of Pernambuco, and São Luiz do Paraitinga, in São Paulo, Brazil.
