Abstract in English
This research proposes to discuss the work of Argentine artist León Ferrari produced during his stay in the city of São Paulo, between 1976 and 1991, from three axes. Through his relations with Latin American conceptualism and with his own previous production, we seek to highlight the role of the São Paulo artistic environment as a source for the artist's technical and aesthetic development. First, with the presentation of critics and theorists who sought to outline a so-called Latin American art, we intended to understand why Leon Ferrari's work was at first absent from their readings and what led him to penetrate those select lists of artists in the final years of the 20th century, observing the role that the São Paulo period of his work played in this change. Then, at the heart of this research, the analysis of works that include the three-dimensional wire and metal bars sculptures and the two-dimensional heliographs, xerographs and pages of artist books, points out common elements in the set of works from his São Paulo period that offer keys for reading this artistic phase. Here, the forms and functions of the works are taken into account to set up a framework strained with returns to his old compositions and unfoldings to new fronts of study. Finally, as evidence of the contamination of a work focused on political meanings by an art of senses in Ferrari's production between the 1970s and 1980s, some critique and his own texts referring to the period in focus are presented and analyzed.
