Desde as mais antigas manifestações artísticas em cavernas até as possibilidades gráficas digitais associadas a instrumentos que ampliam nossa visão e conhecimento do mundo, a arte contribuiu para desvendar a Natureza e moldar as formas de olhar, ver e conhecer o ambiente a nossa volta. O objetivo desse trabalho é analisar, ainda que preliminarmente, a arte feita a partir dos diálogos e convergências da arte com a Natureza e o ambiente, elegendo alguns exemplos ao longo da história para trazer à tona esses momentos em que arte e Natureza se ligam de forma coalescente, transcendente e/ou ativa e mutuamente transformadora, enquanto tece considerações para uma História da Arte Ambiental. Analisa como o olhar do artista -- e o contexto em que a arte é produzida -- tem se relacionado com o ambiente, com a paisagem, com os animais e com a Natureza, ao mesmo tempo em que evidencia relações da sociedade com o planeta e com Gaia. A pesquisa se desloca por duas esferas: a História da Arte e a História Ambiental apoiando-se em uma abordagem exploratória qualitativa. Essas 'histórias' se interligam propondo reflexões entre arte e ambientalismo, dois fenômenos tão importantes em um momento de crise ambiental com reflexos em todos os setores da sociedade. No âmago dessa jornada está a própria convivência da humanidade com a Natureza, suas convicções, crenças, aspirações, avanços e retrocessos, que se refletem em trabalhos artísticos, os quais podem ser belos, sublimes, inquietantes, provocativos ou terríveis e intimidadores. Uma jornada que se inicia nas práticas mágico/ritualísticas, passa pela fotografia, a Land Art, o ambientalismo chegando até a chamada espiritualidade laica, evidenciando caminhos e expressões que extrapolam as questões temporais e dá sentido a muitas manifestações e motivações artísticas ambientais. Por fim, traz para análise a arte e saberes de comunidades originárias questionando a viabilidade de classificações anglo-euro-cêntricas nesses contextos, especialmente em suas relações com o ambiente e os outros seres. Algumas questões que emergiram desse percurso: Como nosso relacionamento com o meio ambiente se manifesta na Arte Ambiental? Essas obras serão um indicativo do estado da nossa sociedade em relação à Natureza? A arte pode tornar visível e acessível fenômenos e saberes que outras áreas do conhecimento humano não conseguem, especialmente as dimensões invisíveis a olhos reféns do materialismo? Embora não seja possível dar respostas definitivas a perguntas como essas, elas são subjacentes à pesquisa, norteando uma busca que, assim como a arte, nem sempre é passível de se definir objetivamente, não obstante, delineou-se o protagonismo das artes nessa rede de significados e saberes em alguns momentos em que a arte se voltou para o ambiente e as consequências das ações do ser humano sobre a Natureza.

From the oldest artistic manifestations in caves to the digital graphic possibilities associated with instruments that broaden our vision and knowledge of the world, art has contributed to unveiling nature and shaping the ways of looking, seeing and knowing the environment around us. The objective of this work is to analyze, although preliminarily, the art made from the dialogues and convergences of art with Nature and environment, by electing some examples throughout history to bring to light these moments in which art and Nature are connected in a coalescent, transcendent and/or mutually transformative way, while weaving considerations and reflections for an Environmental Art History. It analyzes how the artist's gaze - and the context in which art is produced - has been related to the environment, the landscape, animals, and nature, while at the same time shows society's relations with the planet and with Gaia. The research moves through two spheres: Art History and Environmental History, supported by a qualitative exploratory approach. These 'stories' are interconnecting proposing reflections between art and environmentalism, two phenomena so important in a time of environmental crisis with reflections in all sectors of society. At the heart of this journey is humanity's own coexistence with nature, its convictions, beliefs, aspirations, advances, and setbacks, which are reflected in artistic works, which can be beautiful, sublime, disturbing, provocative, or terrible and intimidating. A journey that begins with magical/ritualistic practices, passes through photography, Land Art, environmentalism, reaching the so-called secular spirituality, evidencing paths and expressions that go beyond the time issues and give meaning to many manifestations and ecological and environmental artistic motivations. Finally, it brings to analysis the art and knowledge of original communities, ancestors, questioning the feasibility of Anglo-euro-centric classifications in these contexts, especially in their relations with the environment and other beings. Some questions emerge from this path: How is our relationship with the environment manifested in Environmental Art? Will these works be indicative of the state of our society in relation to Nature? Can art make visible and accessible phenomena and knowledge that other areas of human knowledge cannot, especially the dimensions invisible to eyes hostage to materialism? Although it is not possible to give definitive answers to questions such as these, they are underlying the research, leading a search that, like art, is not always able to define itself objectively, nevertheless, the protagonism of the arts in this network of meanings and knowledge was outlined at times when art has turned to the environment and the consequences of human actions on Nature.
