Abstract in English
This research proposes provenance studies of five works that belong to the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo. They are prints produced between 1916 and 1922 (during and shortly after World War I) by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Käthe Kollwitz and Paul Klee. These works, as well as others exhibited in public museums and private collections in Germany, were categorized by the Nazi regime as "degenerate art." This process, which began in 1933 and continued until the end of World War II in 1945, condemned modern art within Germany and other territories occupied by the German army. The proposal here is to contribute to the understanding of how these prints came to MAC-USP's collection.
