Abstract in English
The present research aims to investigate how the artist Anish Kapoor works with the artistic object in his most recent productions. To show that, works were chosen from the Non-object (Black) series, in which three-dimensional shapes covered in black present an illusion of two-dimensionality, and from his visceral phase, in which the artist, using three-dimensional paintings, thinks about the insides of the human body. These two moments of his works were chosen aiming the selection of artworks in two of the artist's exhibitions, Anish Kapoor: Surge, in Santiago, Chile (2019) and Anish Kapoor, in Venice, Italy (2022). The proposals point out possibilities for thinking about Kapoor's work between the void and materiality. To this end, the research chooses color and space as fundamental structural elements of Kapoor's poetics, and his relationship with the artistic object will be explored based on these factors. Prioritizing a phenomenological approach, based mainly on Marin Heidegger and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and bringing together contemporary art thinkers, such as Hal Foster and Georges Didi-Huberman, the thesis considers the elements of the visible, the invisible and the gaze as enabling an objectual approach in Kapoor that allows the chosen works to be highlighted as non-objects, or abject objects. As such, we intend to locate in contemporary art this tendency to overcome the dichotomous relationships between subject and object through the poetic qualities that appear between emptiness and materiality highlighted in the artist's works.
