A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo verificar, sistematicamente, como Mário Pedrosa, durante toda a sua trajetória crítica, observou, interpretou e valorou a arte moderna italiana. Isto se mostra particularmente importante justamente pelo fato de a arte italiana - tanto a antiga como a moderna - ter se mostrado algo perene no sistema das artes brasileiro. Para tanto, foi lida a obra crítica completa do pensador, coletando-se um corpus em que figuram artistas e pensadores da arte italianos tratados por ele. A partir disso, foi interpretado o modo como via a arte moderna da Península (ainda que com muitas referências àquela da tradição).

The present research aims to verify, in a systematic way, how Mário Pedrosa, throughout his critical trajectory observed, interpreted and valued modern Italian art. This is particularly important precisely because Italian art - both modern and that of traditional artists - has proved to be something perennial in the Brazilian art system. To this end, the complete critical work of the thinker was read, so that a corpus was collected including Italian artists and authors discussed by Pedrosa, which enabled us to interpret the way he saw the modern art of the Peninsula (although with several references to the art of tradition).
