Abstract in English
This research aimed to understand the influence that indoor plants of domestic units can have on the well-being of residents of highly urbanized areas, using the case of the Piracicaba commercial hub. In order to do so, the evidence presented in the literature on the therapeutic benefits related to the presence of plants in the indoor environment was taken into account, and semi-structured interviews were carried out with commercial hub residents aiming to understand the influences that plants in the domestic units can do on the well-being of individuals from their own perception. Using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) self-report instrument, it was intended to verify the level of depression, anxiety, and stress of individuals, considering the environmental disturbances to which they are exposed, and to evaluate its association with the absence or presence of plants in the domestic unit. Statistical results were not significant for the association between the presence of plants and lower levels of depression, anxiety and stress. However, the results obtained in the qualitative approach demonstrated that, from the perspective of the informants, numerous benefits for well-being are experienced with the act of contemplation and care for the plants in the domestic unit.
