Abstract in English
This study investigates the relationship between dialogue and forest management and governance. Its general objective is to contribute to build knowledge about the potential of dialogue for the management and governance of forests as complex adaptive systems. The specific objectives are: 1. interpret the notions of dialogue in the Forum Florestal Paulista; 2. identify characteristics that facilitate and block dialogue to occur at the Forum Florestal Paulista; 3. understand how the national and international initiatives influence these dialogue notions and characteristics, and how they can help in expanding the dialogical practice of the Forum Florestal Paulista; 4. associate dialogical aspects with characteristics of forests as complex adaptive systems; 5. develop a dialogical approach to guide multisectoral forest management processes in a complex way. This was a qualitative research based on participant observation technique, including case study, open interviews, literature review, and public documents consultation. Findings showed that dialogic is an approach that allows dialogue to occur. Dialogue is seen as an event arising from the encounter between different beings who are willing and opening to allow their experiences to mix, to admire their functioning, to adapt responsibly based on the unexpected, and to create a new condition. Finally, this study pointed out that dialogic seems to be a complex approach to forest management and governance.
