Abstract in English
Eletcronegative LDL (LDL-) is an in vivo modified subfraction of LDL formed by particles with increased superficial negative charge, higher amount of oxidized lipids, mainly lipid hydroperoxides and cholesterol oxides and lower content of lipid soluble antioxidants in comparison to those of native LDl subfraction. In this study, the concentration of LDL- and lgG and IgM antibodies reactive to this subfraction were evaluated in plasma of type 1 and type 2 diabetics, individuals with glucose intolerance and normoglycemics. The results show an increase of LDL- and of lgG and IgM antibodies reactive to LDL- in diabetic patients and in individual with glucose intolerance in comparison to the normoglicemic controls. Diabetic patients with glycated hemoglobina levels higher than the high reference limit showed higher LDL- concentration than those with glycated hemoglobin within the reference range. This indicates that glycemic control is important to prevent in vivo modification of LDL. Considering that the oxidative modification of lipoproteins, in particular that of LDL, has an important role in pathophysiology of atherosclerosis, it can be suggested that LDL- levels could be helpful to monitor cardiovascular complications in diabetic patients.
