This work reports the synthesis of nanostructured SrTi1-xFexO3 powder and thin films (0.0 < x < 0.75) using a modified polymeric precursor method. The influence of the addition of iron in thermal, structural and morphological properties of SrTiO3 compound was investigated by thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption, Raman and infrared spectroscopies and scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques. DTA and TG results showed that the addition of iron into the SrTiO3 network leads to a reduction of the decomposition and crystallization temperatures of the precursor powder. The analysis of the X-ray diffraction patterns indicated the reduction of the crystallite sizes and the lattice parameters with the increase of the iron amount. The analysis of the absorption spectra at the Fe K-edge of the nanoparticle samples indicates the predominance of Fe3+ ions. The increase of the amount of iron also leads to a partial sintering of the nanoparticles. Changes in the atmosphere and in the temperature of calcination of undoped SrTiO3 prevented the formation of necks between the nanoparticles and showed a greater uniformity in the particle size around 11 nm. Thin films of SrTiO3 and SrTi1-xFexO3 deposited by dip-coating onto amorphous substrate showed the formation of a single crystalline phase and good adhesion to the substrate. AFM measurements indicated a reduction in the surface roughness as the amount iron increases.
